Rock Springs Run State Reserve is approximately 14,000 acres of a variety of plant communities typically found throughout Central Florida's landscape. The reserve is located approximately 30 miles north of Orlando and easily located off of I-4 at exit 51; then follow SR 46 west for almost 10 miles. The property was purchased in March 1983 for habitat preservation, for watershed protection and to provide recreational opportunities in the Central Florida area. Additional purchases in 1991 and 1995 have formed a vast wilderness in Orange and Lake Counties.

Attention Visitors: Rock Springs Run nor the Wekiva River may be accessed from this property.

Shaped by alternating cycles of fire and flood, the Tosohatchee State Reserve is a mosaic of freshwater marshes, swamps, pine flatwoods and hardwood hammocks.

Varied and unique plant communities support abundant wildlife, including rare and endangered species.

The 28,000 acres of Tosohatchee border 19 miles of the St. Johns River in east Orange County. The land was purchased in 1977 under Florida's Environmentally Endangered Lands program in order to preserve its aesthetic qualities and the extensive wetlands that are essential water cleansing and storage areas for the St. Johns River.

Driving Directions

Tosohatchee State Reserve is located on Taylor Creek Road in Christmas (east of Orlando).

Heading east on State Road 50, turn right on Taylor Creek Road and proceed three (3) miles to the park entrance on your left.

From State Road 528 (Bee-line), take the State Road 520 exit and go north on State Road 520 approximately one (1) mile, turn right on Taylor Creek Road and proceed approximately two (2) miles to park entrance on right.

Welcome to one of the most unique parks in the Florida State Park system. A visit here provides an opportunity to experience Florida wildlife up close and in a natural setting.

Homosassa Springs is one of the few places where you can be guaranteed to see manatees year-round. The underwater observatory provides great viewing without getting wet; you can get within inches of a manatee! The park recently completed many improvements including a new reptile exhibit that provides a great view of many of Florida’s reptiles, both venomous and non-venomous; Wildlife Walk, a boardwalk system of over 1600 feet, meanders around a variety of wildlife exhibits and habitats providing great viewing opportunities to see bobcats, cougars, otters, bears and hundreds of birds.

Bring the kids, bring the grandparents and don’t forget your camera! Enjoy the beautiful weather and natural surroundings at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. You’ll be glad you did.

Hours of Operation

Open every day of the year from 9:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Last tickets are sold at 4:00 p.m. It is recommended that visitors allow 3 1/2 to 4 hours to tour the park.
